THE PREDICTION

In the opening round of fixtures of the 2023 UEFA Under-21 European Championships, Georgia stunned the competition by pulling off a 2-0 win against Portugal. It isn’t unfair to suggest the Georgians wouldn’t be at this tournament if they weren’t hosts and they are missing their best player, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but they have now given themselves a real chance of making the knockout stages out of a difficult group. Belgium come into this on the back of beginning their campaign with a goalless draw against the Netherlands in Tbilisi. That low-scoring encounter is more to do with the strength of the Dutch defence as Belgium do have some really capable forwards in attack. Given that, as well as Georgia’s good start, this could well be an entertaining encounter.
