THE PREDICTION
Latvia pulled off a surprise 3-3 win in Turkey in March to offer doubts as to the Turk’s Euro 2020 dark horses credentials; which would eventually be proven to be correct. The Latvians have collapsed since qualification for UEFA Euro 2004 and that major tournament appearance distracts from the fact that they have been in the bottom ten, at least, of Europe over the last five years or so. Turkey, who have flattered to deceive and suffered a humiliating defeat in the Netherlands, after a humiliating summer at the Euros, are now in a fierce battle at the top of their group alongside the Dutch and Norway. They risk missing out on the playoffs but they will still come into this as the favourites.
