ENGLAND PREVIEW: GOING FOR THREE FROM THREE

Lee Carsley is aiming to implement a more modern and progressive style of football with the England national side and the early signs were positive last month as they defeated both Ireland and Finland by two goals to nil each.

This month, though, they begin their third match day sitting second in their UEFA Nations League League B Group 1 table behind Greece so there is actually a little but riding on this one at Wembley Stadium.

GREECE PREVIEW: THE IMPROVEMENT OF GREEKS

Greece have been improving in recent years as they try to return to a major tournament for the first time since the 2014 FIFA World Cup. They narrowly missed out on UEFA EURO 2024 qualification in the playoffs, losing to Georgia on penalties.

Now, with Ivan Jovanovic at the helm, began with a 3-0 win over Finland and a 2-0 win over Ireland to mean they sit above the Three Lions on goal difference. They have suffered just two defeats inside 90 minutes in their last 11 matches since September 2023.

ENGLAND TEAM NEWS: KANE IS A DOUBT

England captain Harry Kane has had to be substituted with an injury in each of Bayern Munich’s last two Bundesliga matches and he is training separately from the side at the moment due to that with Morgan Gibbs-White, Ezri Konsa and Kobbie Mainoo all withdrawing due to injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Alexander-Arnold, Stones, Colwill, Lewis; Rice, Gomes; Saka, Bellingham, Grealish; Kane

UNAVAILABLE: Konsa (Injured), Mainoo (Injured), Gibbs-White (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Kane (Injured)

GREECE TEAM NEWS: STRONG SIDE

Greece have an impressive set of defensive options but the visitors to Wembley have also been able to develop their attacking options with the likes of Vangelis Pavlidis, Tasos Douvikas and Fotis Ioannidis.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Vlachodimos; Rota, Mavropanos, Koulierakis, Tsimikas; Bouchalakis, Siopis; Chatzigiovannis, Bakasetas, Tzolis; Ioannidis

ENGLAND VS GREECE PREDICTION

Lee Carsley’s football can often appear overly complex and a little too sophisticated which can lack a consistent cutting edge to rack up scorelines, as was the case even despite England winning last summer’s UEFA U21 European Championships. They now face a Greek side that will be intent on frustrating the English but hitting them on the counter-attack. England remain favourites but it, once again, may not be the highest scoring of games.

ENGLAND VS GREECE TIP: ENGLAND TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
