THE LOWDOWN

WOLFSBURG

Wolfsburg are enduring an awful run of league form presently, which sees them now inside the bottom half. Niko Kovac’s side have lost four of their last five Bundesliga games, drawing the other one and have shipping a whopping nine goals across the last three of those fixtures. Their misery was compounded right before the international break, as they were thumped 4-0 by Borussia Monchengladbach.

It's worth noting though, that Wolfsburg have won a game across their recent barren Bundesliga run. That victory came against RB Leipzig and it came in the DFB-Pokal, a 1-0 triumph which saw the usually leaky Wolfsburg backline, shut out Marco Rose’s side. That will at least give them much-needed belief heading into this match.

RB LEIPZIG

RB Leipzig know all about the threat Wolfsburg pose and falling victim to it first-hand in the DFB-Pokal. Having lost their chance to complete a German cup ‘three-peat’, they’ll no doubt be desperate for payback on this occasion. Expect any complacency on their side to be left firmly in the changing room.

The visitors are coming off the back of consecutive wins just prior to the international break, backing up their 1-2 win away at Red Star Belgrade with a 3-1 beating of Freiburg. Goals from Xavi Simons, Lois Openda and Christoph Baumgartner proved the difference, the latter two netting within a minute of each other.

THE TEAM NEWS

WOLFSBURG

Versatile full-back Joakim Maehle is sidelined here, the Danish international is currently struggling through illness. Wolfsburg will also be missing winger Patrick Wimmer and striker Lukas Nmecha, the latter having yet to feature for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga so far this season due to his injury troubles.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Casteels; Lacroix, Jenz, Zesiger; Baku, Svanberg, Arnold, Paredes; Cerny, Wind, Majer

UNAVAILABLE: Maehle (Illness), Nmecha (Injured), Wimmer (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

RB LEIPZIG

Nicolas Seiweld may be required in central midfield should Kevin Kampl not recover from an ankle issue in time, whilst Benjamin Sesko’s back problem sees him also a doubt for this game. RB Leipzig are already missing the likes of captain Willi Orban, influential attacking midfielder Dani Olmo and striker Timo Werner.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-2-2): Blaswich; Henrichs, Simakan, Castello, Raum; Kampl, Schlager; Forsberg, Simons; Openda, Poulsen

UNAVAILABLE: Bitshiabu (Injured), Gulacsi (Injured), Olmo (Injured), Orban (Injured), Werner (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Kampl (Injured), Sesko (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

The most worrying aspect of Wolfsburg’s thumping defeat at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach most recently was how easily they were carved open defensively. It doesn’t bode well for them when coming up against a team of RB Leipzig’s ability going forward. Marco Rose’s men are capable of scoring goals from anywhere on the pitch with their full-backs getting forward at every opportunity. Despite being on the road, it looks a smart move to back an RB Leipzig win, giving them revenge for that DFB-Pokal loss.

BETTING TIP: RB LEIPZIG TO WIN
