WERDER BREMEN PREVIEW: POINT ON THE ROAD REPRESENTS SOLID START

After taking the lead vs Augsburg, Werder Bremen were quickly pegged back and found themselves 2-1 behind heading into the half-time break. However, a rally in the second half saw them draw level and Werder settled for a point in the end with the score finishing 2-2.

Whilst Werder can take heart for coming back and not folding after suffering a set-back, confidence at the back doesn’t look at its highest which doesn’t bode well when taking into account the attacking players at Borussia Dortmund’s disposal.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND PREVIEW: BYNOE-GITTENS STALS THE SHOW OFF THE BENCH

Borussia Dortmund were frustrating for large periods against Eintracht Frankfurt in their opening league match of the season, but Nuri Sahin’s substitutions paid off and saw him rewarded with three points in his first Bundesliga fixture in charge of the club he served so well as a player. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens came off the bench and opening the scoring in the 72nd minute, before wrapping up victory at the death.

Sahin will have been happy with the clean sheet to go alongside the win and BVB have now won each of their two competitive matches under him if you also count the victory in the DFB-Pokal first round.

WERDER BREMEN TEAM NEWS: NJINMAH COULD START AFTER LAST WEEKEND’S GOAL

Forward Justin Njinmah may well be rewarded for his equaliser at Augsburg with a starting birth here against Borussia Dortmund. At the other end of the field, Anthony Jung is likely to replace Milos Veljkovic at the back should the Serbian fail to recover in time from a knock.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Zetterer; Stark, Friedl, Jung; Weiser, Lynen, Stage, Agu; Schmid, Ducksch, Njinmah

UNAVAILABLE: Pieper (Injured), Veljkovic (Injured)

BORUSSIA DORTMUND TEAM NEWS: GUIRASSY STILL NOT READY

Marquee summer signing Serhou Guirassy isn’t expected to make his debut just yet for Borussia Dortmund as his knee continues to prove a problem, but one change is expected, that being Bynoe-Gittens getting brought into the XI following last Saturday’s brace.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Kobel; Anton, Sule, Schlotterbeck; Ryerson, Can, Gross, Bynoe-Gittens; Sabitzer, Adeyemi, Brandt

UNAVAILABLE: Couto (Injured), Guirassy (Injured), Watjen (Injured)

WERDER BREMEN VS BORUSSIA DORTMUND PREDICTION

Nuri Sahin faces his biggest test yet with this being Borussia Dortmund’s first away league fixture under his stewardship. But as was the case against Eintracht Frankfurt, the depth which he possesses within the Dortmund squad should go a long way to maintaining his success. You’d expect the visitors to gain more and more control as this game goes on as a result of those potential substitutions.

Werder Bremen pose a significant challenge on their own ground and the BVB backline will need to stand firm. But when considering how impressive they looked last time out, it would be no surprise if they were to shut out the hosts. Therefore, back Dortmund to continue their 100% record under Sahin.
