THE LOWDOWN
UNION BERLIN
Two defeats most recently, both by two goals to nil has forced Nenad Bjelica back to the drawing board from a Union Berlin point of view. It’s worth noting though that both losses were against tough opposition in Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart, both of whom may well find themselves in the Champions League next season.
Union will be without midfielder Andras Schafer for the visit of Werder Bremen as he is suspended, whilst Janik Haberer is out through injury. Brenden Aaronson could start in the middle of the part and a decision will need to be made regarding playing either Christopher Trimmel or Josip Juranovic at right-full-back.
WERDER BREMEN
Following their disappointing 2-1 loss away to Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen were unable to respond the following week by taking any point at home. Instead, they fell to another defeat by two goals to one, this time at the hands of Borussia Dortmund. Two first-half goals left Werder with a mountain to climb and despite pulling one back, they were ultimately beaten.
That result leaves Werder down in tenth-place and further away from a European place next season. However, they are at least a full 12 points clear of the bottom three but the visitors certainly won’t want their season to peter out just yet with nine rounds of Bundesliga fixtures remaining as it stands.

THE PREDICTION
When taking into account the bad form of these two sides, both of whom are coming off the back of consecutive league defeats, they’ll each be desperate to stop the rot. This may mean a more defensive set-up from Union and Werder that sees them prioritise protecting their respective backlines and giving away little in the form of clear-cut opportunities. You sense that a draw whilst frustrating, wouldn’t be the worst outcome for either club and backing it is well worth consideration.
