Hoffenheim failed to back up their 3-1 triumph over Borussia Monchengladbach as they were beaten by the same scoreline last time out by RB Leipzig away from home. Ultimately, the Hoffenheim backline were unable to contain the class of Leipzig, who opened the scoring after 34 minutes. Although Hoffenheim bounced back to equalise before half-time, the pressure eventually told as the hosts added another two goals between the 70th and 75th minute.
That result leaves Hoffenheim still in the top half of the table and in a good position just outside the European places, which they should be very happy with when considering their struggles of last season which saw them flirting dangerously with relegation at times.
DARMSTADT
Unless Darmstadt can end a run of three consecutive defeats and pick up only their third league win of the Bundesliga campaign, then the newly promoted side will be spending Christmas bottom of the table. Out of their depth defensively, a whopping 38 goals conceding in 15 games tells the story and shows why they have lost 10 out of 15 in the top flight.
Darmstadt can at least take heart from the fact that they have claimed victory once on the road this season, beating Augsburg 1-2 back in October. Since then though, the visitors have lost six and drawn two, including a 8-0 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Darmstadt will be hoping that Hoffenheim’s recent Bundesliga run of just one win from their last six works in their favour psychologically, with the hosts clearly off-form. The issue though, is that despite their poor recent record, Hoffenheim still pose a substantial threat going forward, one that Darmstadt likely won’t be able to contain with the worst defence in the Bundesliga on paper. Combine that with home advantage being in Hoffenheim’s favour and Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men are well-worth backing to make it six points from their last three league games heading into the winter break.
