THE LOWDOWN
HEIDENHEIM
Heidenheim increased their unbeaten streak to six consecutive league fixtures following last weekend’s 1-1 draw away at Hoffenheim, their third 1-1 draw in a row since the resumption of the Bundesliga. After going ahead through Eren Dinkci, the newly-promoted side were pegged back thanks to a first-half stoppage time penalty scored by Andrej Kramaric.
This contest definitely represents Heidenheim’s sternest test since their 2-1 loss against RB Leipzig, the last time Frank Schmitt’s men tasted defeat. But at home, Heidenheim won’t fear anyone and they already successful took a point from Borussia Dortmund in the reverse fixture, coming back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Signal Iduna Park.
BORUSSIA DORTMUND
Borussia Dortmund have seemingly found another gear post-winter and have really shown a step up in quality, especially going forward. Edin Terzic’s side have racked up ten goals across their last three league games, all of which ended in victory for Dortmund and all of which saw them score at least three times.
Having now leapfrogged RB Leipzig into the Champions League places following an incredible nine-point-swing between the two teams since Christmas, Terzic’s men are now focused on catch Bayer Leverkusen at the Bundesliga summit. However, that’s far easier said than done with the gap currently a whopping 13 points.
THE TEAM NEWS
HEIDENHEIM
Both Thomas Keller and Elidon Qenaj remain out for the hosts, whilst a concussion renders centre-back Benedikt Gimber doubtful. Forward Denis Thomalla is also a doubt through illness. Don’t expect any heavy tinkering to the starting XI from Schmitt.
PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Muller; Traore, Mainka, Gimber, Fohrenbach; Maloney; Dinkci, Schoppner, Beck, Beste; Kleindienst
UNAVAILABLE: Keller (Injured), Qenaj (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Gimber (Injured), Thomalla (Illness)
BORUSSIA DORTMUND
Borussia Dortmund are expected to be without several players for this one. A muscle injury will more than likely rule out Jadon Sancho, whilst Gregor Kobel, Marco Reus and Julian Brandt are also not expected to feature barring a surprise. This may lead to a change in formation, with three centre-backs potentially utilised by Terzic in a 3-4-3 formation that sees Thomas Meunier and Ian Maatsen act as wing-backs.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Meyer; N. Schlotterbeck, Sule, Hummels; Meunier, Sabitzer, Ozcan, Maatsen; Malen, Fullkrug, Bynoe-Gittens
UNAVAILABLE: Haller (International Duty), Nmecha (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Adeyemi (Injured), Brandt (Illness), Kobel (Illness), Reus (Illness), Ryerson (Injured), Sancho (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
Both teams are in excellent form which should lead to an encounter just as exciting as the reverse fixture. Heidenheim won’t fear Borussia Dortmund, especially at home and are likely to take the fight to their high-ranking opponents. It would therefore be no surprise to see another high scoring game and backing over 2.5 goals scored, as has been the case in every Dortmund match post international break looks the shrewd play, regardless of the final outcome.
