HEIDENHEIM PREVIEW: TWO VICTORIES THIS PAST WEEK FOR HAPPY HEIDENHEIM
Heidenheim withstood heavy pressure away at 2. Bundesliga champions St. Pauli last Sunday, but hung on and ultimately showed fantastic cutting edge at the other end in the second half, scoring twice and coming away with a 0-2 win. That victory was sandwiched in-between a pair of wins against Hacken in the Europa Conference League.
Add in their progression to the second round of the DFB-Pokal and it’s been a fantastic start to the 2024-25 campaign for Heidenheim. They are proving that last season was no fluke and they seemingly plan to back that up with another historical campaign this time around.
AUGSBURG PREVIEW: AFTER CASHING IN ON KEY PLAYERS, CAN AUGSBURG DEFY THE ODDS AGAIN
Augsburg managed to get on the board in the Bundesliga at the first time of asking on the opening weekend, drawing 2-2 at home to Werder Bremen in a game that swung both ways. After falling behind early on, Augsburg turned things around, and led before half-time. But Werder came back in the second half to force a draw.
Like their opponents, Augsburg are also into the second round of the DFB-Pokal, after getting the better of fourth tier side Viktoria Berlin by four goals to one prior to their first Bundesliga fixture of the season.
HEIDENHEIM TEAM NEWS: PIERINGER MAKES CASE FOR START UP TOP
A goal from Marvin Pieringer in the Europa Conference League in midweek underlined his attacking threat when on the pitch for Heidenheim and Frank Schmidt will no doubt be extremely tempted to start him again here over Maximilian Breunig.
PREDICTED XI: (4-2-3-1): Muller; Traore, Mainka, Gimber, Fohrenbach; Maloney, Schoppner; Scienza, Wanner, Beck; Pieringer
UNAVAILABLE: Keller (Injured), Niehues (Injured)

AUGSBURG TEAM NEWS: JAKIC STATUS A QUESTION MARK FOR VISITORS
Croatian midfielder Kristijan Jakic is nursing an ankle problem, which renders him a doubt for this match. Both Dahmen and Gumny though, are definitely missing for Augsburg, who should set up with two-pronged strike-force despite being away from home.
PREDICTED XI: (4-3-1-2): Labrovic; Pedersen, Gouweleeuw, Schlotterbeck, Giannoulis; Rexhbecaj, Breithaupt, Maier; Jensen; Essende, Tietz
UNAVAILABLE: Dahmen (Injured), Gumny (Injured), Oxford (Illness)
QUESTIONABLE: Jakic (Injured)
HEIDENHEIM VS AUGSBURG PREDICTION
When considering just how well Heidenheim have started the new campaign in all competitions, it’s understandable that plenty see them extending their winning run here. However, playing all these games in quick succession is more than likely to catch up with them at some point and it may be the case that we see it happen in this encounter.
Augsburg are underrated opposition and have shown themselves already this season to be real menaces in front of goal. Their attacking potency will give them a very good chance of getting something from Heidenheim and backing Augsburg via the double chance market to pick up at least a point, if not all three is well worth considering.
