THE LOWDOWN
EINTRACHT FRANKFURT
Eintracht Frankfurt have enjoyed a relatively successful return to Bundesliga action points-wise following the winter break. A brilliant 0-1 victory away at RB Leipzig was backed up by a 2-2 draw against Darmstadt, where the overriding emotion was one is huge disappointment. After going two goals in front, Dino Toppmöller’s men let their lead slip in dramatic fashion, conceding just after the hour-mark before an equalising goal in the 95th minute cost them the win.
No doubt they’ll be looking to put things right at the first time of asking against another bottom-three side in Mainz. Being at home should certainly prove to their advantage with Eintracht having won their last two Bundesliga fixtures on their own patch, including a stunning 5-1 thrashing of reigning champions Bayern Munich.
MAINZ
The last time that Mainz tasted victory in the Bundesliga was all the way back in early November, an impressive 2-0 triumph over RB Leipzig. Since then, it’s been a real struggle on the pitch for Jan Siewert’s side, with no wins in seven league games and just three goals scored. A complete lack of potency and confidence going forward has stunted them severely and this is reflected in their recent results.
Consecutive draws have at least shown signs of improvement, but has failed to prevent Mainz from dropping into the bottom three. The gap between them and 15th-placed Union Berlin currently stands at three points and only goal difference is preventing them from dropping into the automatic relegation places.

THE PREDICTION
The longer Mainz go without victory, the more pressure starts to build upon them with a gap starting to emerge between the bottom three and those above them. Eintracht Frankfurt are in a prime position to pile on the misery and with superior strength-in-depth, not to mention a better-performing squad, it would be no surprise if they bossed proceedings here. Back the hosts to emerge as comfortable winners in this one.
