THE PREDICTION

Julian Nagelsmann comes up against his former side with his current side sitting at the top-of-the-table. At times this season, Nagelsmann’s Bayern have shown the best of Flick and the best of Guardiola’s teams. Intensity in their athleticism matched with a technical ability that is perhaps unparalleled in world club football. However, the one thing missing has been a ruthless efficiency and consistency. Now, 16 wins in 20 league games and six wins from six in the UEFA Champions League group stage is obviously exceptional but elimination from the Pokal and just a six-point lead with 14 games to go in the Bundesliga is a frustration. RB Leipzig struggled to adapt to life after Nagelsmann and Jesse Marsch’s start did not go well but, since the appointment of the more defensive-minded former Schalke boss Domenico Tadesco, Leipzig have improved. They come into this on the back of three successive victories. Whilst Bayern will still expect to win, and still probably expect to win quite comfortably, both teams scoring would appear likely.
