THE LOWDOWN

BAYERN MUNICH

Bayern Munich finally managed to gain some ground on Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen last weekend after their 2-3 win over Augsburg was complimented by Xabi Alonso’s side dropping points at home to Borussia Monchengladbach, the Rekordmeister’s opponents here in Munich. The gap now stands at just two points.

Thomas Tuchel remains without a significant number of players, although new signing Sacha Boey could make his debut at right-back. After scoring against Augsburg, Alexander Pavlovic may also be afforded a start in central midfield alongside Leon Goretzka.

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH

Borussia Monchengladbach put in a superb defensive effort to shut out free-scoring table toppers Bayer Leverkusen last weekend and take a deserved point from the BayArena. The whole backline contributed, as did goalkeeper Nicolas, withstanding sustained pressure to keep an unexpected clean sheet.

That 0-0 took Gladbach to 21 points and whilst they sit in 12th-place, they are at least nine points clear of the bottom three. But with a ten point gap between themselves and the European places, they are in danger of their season drifting towards midtable mediocrity.

THE PREDICTION

As they showed in Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach will prove very tough to break down and Bayern Munich really need to maintain concentration the longer this one remains a level game. However, across 90 minutes plus stoppage time, it’s worth backing Bayern Munich, with Harry Kane leading the line to do enough to come out on top, even if it is only by a narrow margin.

BETTING TIP: BAYERN MUNICH TO WIN
