BAYER LEVERKUSEN PREVIEW: ONE WIN IN THEIR LAST THREE LEAGUE GAMES

The irony won’t be lost on many that Bayer Leverkusen struggled to see out a game recently and conceded a late goal. So often last season it was them who broke the hearts of their opponents and now the tables turned as Werder Bremen came from behind twice to snatch a point against the champions last weekend.

That result means that Leverkusen have failed to win two of their last three league fixtures despite scoring twice on all three occasions. Since then, they progressed through in the DFB-Pokal with a comfortable 3-0 triumph over SV Elversberg.

STUTTGART PREVIEW: THREE STRAIGHT WINS IN ALL COMPETITIONS

Stuttgart recorded what was their third victory in a row this past Tuesday night, beating Koln 2-1 in the DFB-Pokal with goals from Nick Woltemade and Chris Fuhrich. This was the perfect way to back up their Bundesliga win over Holstein Kiel and memorable Champions League triumph away to Juventus.

Being able to rest the likes of Deniz Undav, Jamie Leweling and Maximilian Mittelstadt was an added bonus for Sebastian Hoeness, who will no doubt bring them straight back into his starting line-up for this crunch showdown.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN TEAM NEWS: EXPECT KEY PLAYERS TO COME BACK IN

After starting from the bench in midweek, Jeremie Frimpong, Alejandro Grimaldo, Piero Hincapie, Robert Andrich, Florian Wirtz and Victor Boniface should all return to the XI, the latter despite Patrik Schick’s brace vs Elversberg.

PREDICTED XI: (3-4-3): Hradecky; Tah, Tapsoba, Hincapie; Frimpong, Andrich, Xhaka, Grimaldo; Hofmann, Boniface, Wirtz

UNAVAILABLE: Adeyemi (Injured), Reyna (Injured)

STUTTGART TEAM NEWS: CHABOT SUSPENDED, AL-DAKHIL UNLIKELY TO START

After being sent off against Holstein Kiel, defender Julian Chabot will miss this game through suspension, whilst centre-back Ameen Al-Dakhil faces a battle to prove his match fitness to Hoeness.

PREDICTED XI: (4-4-2): Nubel; Vagnoman, Chase, Rouault; Mittelstadt; Leweling, Stiller, Millot, Fuhrich; Toure, Undav

UNAVAILABLE: Chabot (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Al-Dakhil (Fitness)

BAYER LEVERKUSEN VS STUTTGART PREDICTION

Whilst the outcome of this match is anyone’s guess, what we do expect is plenty of action and goals. Both Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart prioritise attack over defence and neither are likely to sacrifice their principles here. They played out an enthralling 2-2 draw in the DFL-Supercup earlier in the season and it would be a real surprise if we didn’t see over 2.5 goals once again, with both teams scoring.
