THE LOWDOWN

TOULOUSE

Balancing UEFA Europa League football and Ligue 1 football has been difficult for a small and inexperienced Toulouse side that qualified for Europe ahead of schedule in their rebuild, which began after being relegated in 2021. They have, though, been able to move away from the bottom three and the danger zone in France’s top-flight.

Toulouse come into this one on the back of three victories in their last four matches in Ligue 1. Their most recent outing saw them comfortably defeated Lille by three goals to one after coming from behind at half-time. They have managed six victories with eight draws and nine defeats in their 23 matches so far this season.

NICE

Under the management of Francesco Farioli, Nice have over achieved and overperformed this season to be competing for a top three finish and UEFA Champions League qualification. However, their limited style of football which has seen them rely heavily in their defensive record is beginning to hold them back in terms of results.

The southerners come into this one on the back of a frustrating goalless draw at home to bottom-of-the-table Clermont at the Allianz Riviera, last weekend. The visitors are now winless in their last four matches. Nice have scored just 22 goals in their 23 matches so far this season with only the bottom two having scored fewer than them.

THE PREDICTION

A couple of months ago, this one would have appeared to be a very one-sided and uneven contest but they have since swapped around. Toulouse have managed just 25 goals themselves as they move themselves into mid-table. Nice, even though they have been generally strong so far this season, have badly struggled in attack. Regardless of the match result, a low-scoring encounter with under 2.5 goals looks the way to go for this one.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
