TOULOUSE PREVIEW: TO LOSE

Since gaining promotion to the top-flight a couple of seasons ago, Toulouse have enjoyed an impressive rise with a Coupe de France triumph in 2023 but a consequence of that was UEFA Champions League qualification, which saw them fighting above their weight with a squad not capable of it.

This season, their smart recruitment should mean they can rebuild and reset for another strong domestic season and, under the management of Carlos Martinez Novell, they do want to play good football. The hosts have managed just one win in their opening five matches of this season, though.

LYON PREVIEW: SLEEPING LION

Last season, Olympique Lyonnais burned through two managers, Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso, by early December. Poor squad building and planning had them languishing down at the foot of the table but Pierrer Sage cultivated a unit that eventually ended up qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.

Lyon come into this one, though, on the back of yet another fairly disastrous start to the season. They have managed just one win in their opening five matches, scoring six and conceding 11. The visitors’ most recent outing saw them lose 3-2 at home to Marseille with their opponents scoring a very late winner.

TOULOUSE TEAM NEWS: FULLY FIT AND AVAILABLE

The home team and Carlos Martinez Novell are blessed with a fully fit and available squad this weekend with no injury concerns or suspension issues for this one.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Restes; Cresswell, Nicolaisen, Akdag; Sidibe, Sierro, Casseres Jr, Suazo; Babicka, Aboukhlal; Gboho

TOULOUSE VS LYON PREDICTION

Toulouse are a team that seemingly want to play quite progressive football but have been generally underwhelming in terms of their effectiveness and inconsistency stretching back quite a long way. They face a Lyon side that have massively let themselves down both on and off the pitch since such a strong end to last season. They will want to batten down the hatches for this weekend after a leaky few weeks so a low-scoring affair does seem likely for this one.
