THE LOWDOWN

STRASBOURG

Throughout the campaign, there has been quite severe and serious fan protests with Strasbourg following their summer takeover by BlueCo and Todd Boehly. Fans of the Alsace-based club have majorly taken against the idea that they are now essentially a feeder club to the Premier League giants and that has definitely affected performances and results on the pitch.

Strasbourg, coached by former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira, had found a bit of decent form through the middle of the campaign but they now begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom-half of the table after a really difficult run of form. They have endured three successive defeats and were beaten 3-1 by Lorient, last weekend.

BREST

Under the management of former Sunderland player, Stade Brest have been the surprise package in France’s Ligue 1 so far this season as they legitimately challenge for a top three finish and potential UEFA Champions League qualification against all odds, continuing their magnificent start to the campaign last weekend.

Last weekend, they Olympique de Marseille by a goal to nil, despite going down to ten men with half an hour to go due to Steve Mounie’s red card. Former Norwich midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou scored an 88th minute winner in that game to mean they are now unbeaten in their last 11 matches in Ligue 1, in a run stretching all the way back to early November.

THE PREDICTION

When the French top-flight restarted after the winter break last month, Strasbourg and Stade Brest were the two in-form teams in the league. However, since then, Strasbourg suffered back-to-back 3-1 defeats to Paris Saint-Germain and Lens, which were last season’s top two so forgivable, but their aforementioned loss to Lorient is less forgivable. Stade Brest have remained in-form and extremely difficult to beat with a double chance bet in favour of Brest looking the way to go for this one.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – BREST TO WIN OR DRAW
