These sides have experienced very different starts to the 2024/25 Ligue 1 campaign with Strasbourg enjoying some much-needed improvement in their performances up against an Angers side that gained promotion last year and have struggled so far.

STRASBOURG PREVIEW: IMPRESSIVE ROSENIOR

There are still supporters protests against the running of the club due to BlueCo’s ownership essentially making Strasbourg a feeder club to Chelsea. On the pitch, Patrick Vieira left the club this summer after a disappointing bottom-half finish and he was replaced by former Hull City boss Liam Rosenior.

Rosenior looks to play a progressive and proactive, attacking style of football and they have begun the campaign quite well. The Alsace-based club started this season with a 1-1 draw against Montpellier before producing an impressive 3-1 defeat of Rennes that was then followed up by losing 4-3 to Lyon, despite leading that game by three goals to one.

ANGERS PREVIEW: DIFFICULT START

Following their promotion to the top-flight of French football last season, it has been an underwhelming start to the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season with Angers languishing down at the bottom end of the table as one of just two sides, alongside fellow newly-promoted Saint-Etienne, with no points from three matches.

Angers began the campaign with a 1-0 defeat at home to Lens before then travelling to Lens’ northern rivals Lille and suffering a 2-0 loss at Stade Pierre-Mauroy before then being hammered by four goals to one at home by a previously winless Nice side that were down to ten men for around half an hour of that match and scored twice after the sending off.

STRASBOURG TEAM NEWS: THEIR OWN WAY

Liam Rosenior has not been afraid of simply not selecting Chelsea or BlueCo players as he tries to get Strasbourg playing his own way with a fluid style of football.

The Englishman does have to deal with a couple of key injuries, though, and the most notable absentees remain midfielder Thomas Delaine and attacker Moise Sahi.

PREDICTED XI (3-2-4-1): Johnsson; Doue, Sow, Sylla, Santos; Doukoure; Bakwa, Lemarechal, Diarra, Nanasi; Emegha

UNAVAILABLE: Gomis (Injured), Lukovic (Injured), Delaine (Injured), Sahi (Injured)

ANGERS TEAM NEWS: STILL NO ALLEVINAH

During the summer, Jim Allevinah was the star signing when he joined on a free transfer from Clermont but he has been out throughout the season and remains unavailable.

With such a small squad, Angers can’t cope with too many issues but they are also missing Justin-Noel Kalumba with a broken ankle as well as Joseph Lopy for this one.

PREDICTED XI (5-3-2): Fofana; Arcus, Bamba, Hountondji, Lefort, Ekomie; Belkhdim, Aholou, Abdelli; El Melali, Cherif

UNAVAILABLE: Kalumba (Injured), Lopy (Injured), Allevinah (Injured)

STRASBOURG VS ANGERS PREDICTION

It will have been a while for Strasbourg since they last went into a game as such overwhelming favourites for a match. However, with the impressive Rosenior deploying a 3-2-4-1 system akin to that of Manchester City and playing with an intensity; they have been a lot stronger than four points in three games would suggest. Angers look set for a really tough struggle for the drop and, especially with their home advantage, a comfortable Strasbourg win is surely likely for this one in Alsace.
