SAINT-ETIENNE PREVIEW: STRUGGLING SAINT-ETIENNE

Under the management of former Montpellier Herault boss Olivier Dall’Oglio, Saint-Etienne have managed just one win in their opening six matches. As they did last season en route to winning the end of season promotion/relegation playoff place against Metz, ASSE are playing a very reactive and defensive style of football.

The home team come into this one on the back of a 2-2 draw against Nantes at the Stade de la Beaujoire in their most recent outing, last weekend. Johann Lepenant opened the scoring after ten minutes and it was 2-0 when Sorba Thomas doubled the lead just after the break but Ibrahim Sissoko did notch a brace in the second-half to earn a point.

AUXERRE PREVIEW: EXHAUSTED AUXERRE

Coached by Christophe Pelissier, Auxerre began the Ligue 1 season with a dramatic victory against Nice on the opening weekend of the campaign thanks to a second-half stoppage-time winning goal scored by summer signing Lasso Coulibaly before they then majorly drifted for a month or so.

After four successive losses against Nantes, Le Havre, Monaco and Montpellier Herault; Auxerre then managed a shock 3-0 hammering of Stade Brest last weekend. Elisha Owusu opened the scoring after 26 minutes before a Jubal penalty ten minutes later with Hamed Junior Traore sealing the three points in the second-half.

SAINT-ETIENNE TEAM NEWS: SAINT-ETIENNE ISSUES

There are quite a few injury issues for Saint-Etienne and Olivier Dall’Oglio to navigate this weekend and there could well be a few changes due to their poor form.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Larsonneur; Appiah, Batubinsika, Nade, Petrot; Moueffek, Ekwah, Amougou; Old, Sissoko, Davitashvili

AUXERRE TEAM NEWS: NO NEED TO CHANGE

There are no fresh injury issues or suspension concerns for Pelissier to deal with so, after a victory last weekend, they are expected to name an unchanged eleven for this one.

The aforementioned Coulibaly has since suffered an ACL injury and he is sidelined alongside the likes of both Ange Loic N’Gatta as well as Ousoumane Camara.

PREDICTED XI (5-3-2): Leon; Hoever, Diomande, Jubal, Osho, Akpa; Owusu, Traore, Danois; Onaiwu, Sinayoko

UNAVAILABLE: N’Gatta (Injured), Camara (Injured), Coulibaly (Injured)

SAINT-ETIENNE VS AUXERRE PREDICTION

In Ligue 2 last season, Saint-Etienne scored just 48 goals in their 38 matches, which is remarkable in contrast when Auxerre won the second-tier title with 72 goals. Auxerre have picked up two victories but suffered the same amount of defeats but do appear more likely to hurt more teams more often with their attacking intent and a double chance bet in favour of the away team would appear a good value bet for this one.
