THE LOWDOWN
RENNES
After another summer of heavy investment Rennes will be looking to build upon European qualification last season by potentially going one step further and reaching the UEFA Champions League. They do and have had to manage the big money sales of Jeremy Doku and Lobro Majore to Manchester City and Wolfsburg, respectively.
Those big name, big money sales have left a little bit of uncertainty at Rennes. There is an uncertainty as to whether they have actually had a good start to the season. They have managed one win with five draws in their opening six matches but that one win came on the opening day against newly-promoted Metz and nothing since.
NANTES
Despite winning the cup in 2022 Nantes endured a difficult 2022-23 season, battling against relegation throughout the campaign. They reached the cup final once again last season and even reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League, only losing to Juventus; however, their poor domestic form would indicate that those cup runs were just a distraction for a club that doesn't quite have a big enough squad to cope.
Nantes would have been very concerned that a repeat of last season and another relegation battle was in store after they began the campaign with back-to-back defeats. However, they have now gone unbeaten in four matches and actually come into this on the back of back-to-back victories with a win against Lorient last weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Descamps; Duverne, Cumart, Castelletto, Merlin; Mollet, Chirivella, Augusto, Simon; Abline, Mohamed

THE PREDICTION
Ahead of the seventh Ligue 1 match day, these two sides are separated by just a place in the table, albeit level on goal difference. Rennes have proven themselves difficult to beat with five draws and a win, whilst Nantes come into this on the back of a four-match unbeaten run of their own. Seven teams have reached double figures for goals scored in France’s top-flight this season and these two are among those so both teams scoring looks a good bet for such an evenly matched contest.
