THE LOWDOWN
RENNES
Julian Stephan returned to Stade Rennais during the November international break after he replaced former Olympique Lyonnais boss Bruno Genesio with Rennes struggling for victories in the middle-of-the-table in Ligue 1. However, since Stephan was re-appointed, Rennes have been much-improved.
They come into this one on the back of a 3-1 hammering of Le Puy in the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France in their most recent outing, during the week, with a brace from Benjamin Bourigeaud and a goal scored by Arthur Theate. Rennes have suffered just one defeat in their last 14 matches across all competitions.
LORIENT
Lorient begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting third from bottom in the relegation playoff place with five victories, seven draws and 11 defeats in their 23 matches so far this season. Regis Le Bris remains in charge after finishing in the top-half of Ligue 1 last season but they have been much-improved in the calendar year of 2024.
The visitors enjoyed three successive victories in February against Metz, Stade de Reims and Strasbourg. However, they had that winning streak ended by a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to an improving Nantes side in their most recent outing, last weekend, with a goal scored by Jean-Charles Castelletto.

THE PREDICTION
Julian Stephan’s Rennes are the overwhelming favourites for this one with their home advantage. They have also been entertaining to watch, too, with their 23 matches consisting of 62 goals. That may well be the case once again this weekend with Lorient heading to Roazhon Park with a bit of confidence and an attacking intent. A high-scoring and entertaining home win is the likeliest outcome for this one.
TIP: RENNES TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
