THE LOWDOWN
REIMS
Last season, Stade Reims gained a lot of attention for their rise up the table from the bottom four and into the top-half by the end of it with a long unbeaten run of form led by Will Still. They were heavily influenced by Folarin Balogun, who has since joined Monaco for a substantial fee but Reims have now signed several players over the summer, spending around £50 million in the transfer window.
Will Still’s men have once again started the campaign in impressive form. They lost 2-1 away to Olympique de Marseille on the opening day of the season, having led that game by a goal to nil. Since then they have managed to collect seven points from three matches with a draw against Metz before the international break following back-to-back victories against Montpellier and Clermont.
BREST
Former Olympique Lyonnais manager Eric Roy is in charge of a Stade Brest side that have once again been tipped up for relegation from Ligue 1. They are especially expected to struggle because of the league’s reduction from 20 to 18 teams and that should make it a lot more congested in the bottom-half of the table.
However, the visitors have started this season with some excellent form. On the opening day of the season, they came from 2-0 down at home to last season’s second-place side Lens and won 3-2. After that they defeated newly-promoted Le Havre by two goals to one before collecting a point from two games against Marseille and Rennes before the break.

THE PREDICTION
Despite both sides starting the season in relatively similar form in terms of results, there is one side that is expected to be a lot stronger this time around. After eventually drifting last season, heavy summer investment means that Will Still’s Reims are expected to challenge for European qualification. Brest did brilliantly to win their opening two but are more likely to drift into the middle-of-the-table. A Reims win, especially with their home advantage, looks the way to go for this one.
