PSG PREVIEW: NO LONGER PERFECT PARISIENS

Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique does not have the presence of absolute mega stars in his side anymore with the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid this summer. However, the younger and more dynamic Parisien squad have started the season magnificently well in both Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League.

Across all competitions, PSG had enjoyed five successive victories but they were held to a 1-1 draw in their most recent outing against Stade de Reims last weekend. They fell behind to a Keito Nakamura strike in the first-half before Ousmane Dembele notched an equaliser mid-way through the second-half.

RENNES PREVIEW: RAUCOUS RENNES

Following the re-appointment of Julian Stephan during last season’s November international break, Stade Rennais have been much-improved as they try and propel themselves back into a top six spot and UEFA competition qualification. They have had an inconsistent start to this season, though.

After five matches, Rennes have enjoyed two victories with a draw and two defeats so far. The visitors do come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw against Lens at the weekend with a heartbreaking finish for Rennes after they had been 1-0 up until M’Bala Nzola scored a 96th minute equaliser for the northerners.

PSG TEAM NEWS: RETURNEES

Both Warren Zaire-Emery and Vitinha have been unavailable at times this season but they are both fit and available to boost Luis Enrique’s impressive midfield options.

There are still come big injury issues, though, with Gianluigi Donnarumma still sidelined alongside key attackers Marco Asensio and Goncalo Ramos.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Safonov; Zague, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Beraldo; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Neves; Dembele, Kolo Muani, Barcola

UNAVAILABLE: Donnarumma (Injured), Kimpembe (Injured), Marco Asensio (Injured), Ramos (Injured)

RENNES TEAM NEWS: NO JOTA FOR RENNES

After shifting from a diamond shape in midfield to something more like a 3-4-3, Julian Stephan will be working out whether to be a little more reactive at Parc des Princes this weekend.

Carlos Andres Gomez has been absent for the last few weeks but Rennes are now without former Celtic winger Jota, who joined on loan from Al Ittihad this summer.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Mandanda; Hateboer, Wooh, Seidu; Assignon, Santamaria, Matusiwa, Truffert; Blas, Gronbaek; Kalimuendo

UNAVAILABLE: Carlos Andres Gomez (Injured), Jota (Injured)

PSG VS RENNES PREDICTION

Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain had started the season really well but they were fortuitous to defeat Brest in the UEFA Champions League before then being held by Reims. Rennes, though, are not necessarily a team to back to take advantage of some stuttering form from the Parisiens. The likelihood remains that this will be quite a comfortable home win and it could well be a return to their high-scoring victories, too.
