THE LOWDOWN

PSG

The fairly irritating but amusing project of Paris Saint-Germain entered a new stage over the summer as they aimed to create a more focused, progressive style of football. As well as that they aimed to recruit French players as well as youngsters to create a more cohesive unit, led by star striker Kylian Mbappe. They spent over £200 million on the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Randal Kolo Muani and Bradley Barcola as well as signing Arnau Tenas, Lucas Hernandez, Manuel Ugarte, Lee Kang-in, Marco Asensio and Goncalo Ramos.

The appointment of Luis Enrique is expected to produce easy on the eye football and that has been the case, albeit they started in a fairly ineffective manner. Their opening match of the season saw them share a goalless draw with Lorient, despite breaking the Ligue 1 for the most completed passes in the game. They followed that up with a frustrating 1-1 draw with Toulouse but they have since enjoyed back-to-back victories against Lens and Olympique Lyonnais.

NICE

Owned by INEOS, Nice have spent a fair bit of money over the past few seasons but their recruitment and general off-field management of the club has meant they have underperformed consistently. The southerners have won just one of their opening four matches as they sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table but they remain unbeaten with three draws.

Francesco Farioli’s side come into this on the back of a comfortable 2-0 victory over Strasbourg at the Allianz Riviera in their most recent outing a couple of weeks ago, before the international break. Prior to that impressive win, in which Youcef Atal and Terem Moffi scored Nice’s goals, they shared two 1-1 draws with Lorient and Lille before a frustrating goalless draw with hapless crisis club Lyon.

THE PREDICTION

Luis Enrique’s PSG are the heavy favourites to win every game they play in in Ligue 1 and this is no difference. The Parisiens are expected to climb back to the top-of-the-table eventually after a relatively slow start to the season with back-to-back draws. The dominant force of French football now host a Nice side that will be relatively pleased with their steady start to the season but this is a very tough test at Parc des Princes. PSG should win an entertaining encounter.
