THE LOWDOWN
PSG
It was a summer of much upheaval in Paris – once again. Both Neymar and Lionel Messi departed with a plethora of incoming signings, such as the likes of Goncalo Ramos, Ousmane Dembele and Randal Kolo Muani, with a spend of over £200 million. They appointed Luis Enrique over the summer to try and continue their development into a more progressive style, both on and off the pitch.
They come into this on the back of a comfortable 2-0 win at home to Borussia Dortmund in their most recent outing, during the week, in the opening match of their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign. They have started the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign with just two victories in their opening five matches after suffering a 3-2 defeat at home to Nice, last weekend.
MARSEILLE
It has been another chaotic summer and start to the season for Olympique de Marseille. After another summer in which a lot of money was spent as Marseille moved on from Igor Tudor to Marcelino. Marcelino, though, has reportedly resigned and then been tempted to stay in the last week as supporters grow frustrated.
They shared a thrilling 3-3 draw with Ajax in the UEFA Europa League in midweek, following on from a frustrating goalless draw at home to Toulouse. They remain unbeaten in their opening five matches and begin this weekend’s round of Ligue 1 fixtures sitting above the reigning champions and upcoming opponents, PSG.

THE PREDICTION
This really could be a thrilling encounter in Paris this weekend. Despite the fact that the home team look to be a little rejuvenated and exciting with their signings and heavy spending, they have still managed just two wins in five games in Ligue 1. Marseille, almost exactly opposite, have a bit of uncertainty off the pitch but are performing well on it. PSG are firm favourites but it should be a high-scoring and entertaining match.
