THE LOWDOWN

MONTPELLIER

Montpellier Herault come into this one on the back of a major improvement in their form as they also try and push away from the danger zone. They come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat of Stade de Reims in their most recent outing, last weekend, with Modibo Sagnan and Mousa Al Taamari scoring either side of Emmanuel Agbadou’s equaliser.

Montpellier have now collected ten points from four matches since they returned from the break at the end of last month. Coached by Armenian Michel Der Zakarian, Montpellier enjoyed back-to-back 2-0 victories against Le Havre and Lorient before a draw with Clermont. They have suffered just two defeats in their last nine matches in Ligue 1.

NANTES

Nantes’ performances and their results have been much-improved since the appointment of their third manager of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign. Both Pierre Aristouy and Jocelyn Gourvennac were sacked by Nantes before the return of Antoine Kombouare and they have begun to push away from the bottom three and the danger zone.

The visitors do, though, come into this one on the back of a 3-0 hammering of Stade Rennais in their most recent outing with goals coming from Armand Kalimuendo, Benjamin Bourigeaud and Amine Gouiri. Prior to that, though, they had enjoyed two victories in three matches since the March international break.

THE TEAM NEWS

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Lafont; Amian, Castelletto, Pallois, Cozza; Augusto, Chirivella, Moutoussamy; Sissoko, Mohamed, Mollet

THE PREDICTION

Both of these sides have underperformed throughout the campaign but they have both rallied late as they try and beat the drop. Montpellier have done so with a more free flowing and attacking style of football with their 30 matches this season consisting of 80 goals. Nantes, on the other hand, are a lot more reactive – as Montpellier have admittedly tried to be in the last few weeks. As a result, a tense affair that is low-scoring, with a draw a fine result for both, seems quite likely.
