THE LOWDOWN

MONACO

Under the management of former Borussia Monchengladbach manager Adi Hutter, Monaco will be hoping to mount something of a challenge towards Paris Saint-Germain at the top-of-the-table. The principality club had a busy summer transfer window with the likes of Folarin Balogun, Mohammed Salisu and Denis Zakaria all moving to Stade Louis II.

The home team come into this on the back of another entertaining match in which they shared a 2-2 draw with Lorient. The Monagasque have started the season well with 15 goals scored and seven defeats in their five matches so far as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting at the top-of-the-table.

NICE

Francesco Farioli never played professional football and did the equivalent of footballing odd jobs, working as Roberto De Zerbi’s goalkeeping coach once upon a time. However, after spells in Turkey with Alanyaspor and Fatih Karagumruk, Farioli got the gig at Nice and they have started in an enterprising and entertaining manner in Ligue 1.

The southerners come into this on the back of a thrilling 3-2 win away to reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain last weekend. Nice have now enjoyed back-to-back victories either side of the international break and they are unbeaten in their opening five matches, albeit they started the season with three successive draws.

THE PREDICTION

These are two unbeaten sides so far this season in Ligue 1 and both teams, who missed out on European qualification last season, will expect to continue and sustain their early good starts. They have both been entertaining to watch with Monaco free scoring and free conceding, whilst Nice have grown into Farioli’s style with their 3-2 win in Paris being a good example of that. A high-scoring game in which both teams scoring seems quite likely for this one.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
