Once again this summer, Olympique de Marseille have once again embarked upon a revolution of their squad and personnel and that has led to quite a lot of money spent and the appointment of former Sassuolo, Shakhtar Donetsk and Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi.

The hosts began this season with an extremely impressive 5-1 hammering of last season’s third placed side Stade Brest on the opening weekend before a 2-2 draw with Stade de Reims a week later. Before the international break, Marseille enjoyed an impressive and comfortable 3-1 defeat of Toulouse at Stadium de Toulouse.

NICE PREVIEW: NEGLECTED NICE

Owned by INEOS, Nice enjoyed one of their better seasons of the INEOS era under the management of now Ajax boss Francesco Farioli last season. Over the summer, their attention turned to United and that may well benefit Nice and the appointment of former Lens boss Franck Haise is quite an impressive one.

The southerners started the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season quite slowly by collecting just one point from their opening two matches against Auxerre and Toulouse but they went into the break on the back of an impressive 4-1 hammering of Angers a couple of weeks ago, despite being down to ten men for about half an hour.

MARSEILLE TEAM NEWS: A COUPLE OF INJURIES

Marseille have an extremely controversial front four that are all performing very well on the pitch and those four should start again with that being Elye Wahi, Mason Greenwood, Luis Henrique and Amine Harit.

Neal Maupay joined just before the deadline but De Zerbi remains without the likes of Leonardo Balerdi, Ismael Kone and Cameroonian international Faris Moumbagna.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Rulli; Michael Amir Murillo, Cornelius, Brassier, Merlin; Hojbjerg, Kondogbia; Greenwood, Harit, Luis Henrique; Wahi

UNAVAILABLE: Ruben Blanco (Injured), Balerdi (Injured), Kone (Injured), Moumbagna (Injured)

NICE TEAM NEWS: MOISE BOMBITO OUT

Summer signing Moise Bombito, who has impressed for Canada in recent months, will be unavailable for the trip to the Velodrome because of his red card last weekend.

As well as the defender, Nice are also dealing with several injury issues such as Morgan Sanson, Sofiane Diop and attacking duo Gaetan Laborde and Terem Moffi.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Bulka; Ndayishimiye, Abdelmonem, Dante; Clauss, Rosario, Ndombele, Bard; Cho, Guessand, Bouanani

UNAVAILABLE: Moise Bombito (Suspended), Louchet (Injured), Bouadoui (Injured), Sanson (Injured), Diop (Injured), Laborde (Injured), Moffi (Injured)

MARSEILLE VS NICE PREDICTION

Olympique de Marseille have scored ten goals in three matches and appear to be taking to the Roberto De Zerbi style of football quite well – especially given the fact that they have yet to keep a clean sheet. Franck Haise’s back three style of football began to show signs of coming together a couple of weeks ago and this probably fiery and hostile affair in the stands should have some entertainment on the pitch, too.
