THE LOWDOWN

LYON

Olympique Lyonnais are seven-time champions of France but they are very much on course to becoming the latest fallen giant of French football with the club sitting rock-bottom in Ligue 1 after 14 matches and they are already five points adrift of safety under the caretaker management of Pierre Sage.

Pierre Sage took charge last week after Fabio Grosso, who had replaced Laurent Blanc during the September international break, was given his marching orders. In his two-game spell in charge so far, Lyon have suffered two defeats with a 3-2 loss to ten-man Lens followed up by being hammered by three goals to nil by Marseille in midweek.

TOULOUSE

The balance between Ligue 1 and UEFA Europa League commitments is proving to be very tricky for Toulouse as they find themselves in a relegation battle. They head into the 15th match day of the campaign sitting 14th in the table and just one point above Lorient, who currently occupy the promotion/relegation playoff place.

Toulouse come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw at home to the aforementioned Lorient in their most recent outing, last weekend. That sharing of the spoils means they have managed just one win, a bizarre anomaly defeating Liverpool by three goals to two in the UEFA Europa League, in their last ten matches across all competitions.

THE PREDICTION

Olympique Lyonnais look likely to be following the same path of the likes of Girondins de Bordeaux and Saint-Etienne as giants of the French game to have recently been relegated from the top-flight; despite their owner, John Textor, suggesting a relegation battle was ridiculous. They now face a Toulouse side that have struggled to balance Ligue 1 and UEFA Europa League football as they are also involved in the battle. If Lyon are to pick up points soon then they will have to start this weekend and backing them, with their home advantage, would seem sensible.

BETTING TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – LYON TO WIN OR DRAW
