THE LOWDOWN

LYON

Lyon have it all to do to qualify for Europe next season as they come into this clash with Monaco in seventh spot in Ligue 1. They had won their prior two matches ahead of their contest against Clermont but fell short on the road and that leaves them with an uphill task to break into the top six.

Lyon took the lead through Alexandre Lacazette but it was short-lived as Clermont levelled just three minutes later, taking advantage from the penalty spot. The teams were level at the break but Clermont found the all-important breakthrough in the second period to claim the spoils.

MONACO

Monaco are in the driving seat to secure fourth spot this season after playing out a goalless draw with Lille last time out. They have claimed four points from their last two outings and will believe they can earn another positive result here having lost just one of their last 11 league games on the road.

In the clash with Lille, both teams had their chances to find the back of the net but it was not to be for Monaco who were without the suspended Wissam Ben Yedder and Guillermo Alfonso.

THE PREDICTION

Lyon could be set to miss out on European football next season after an underwhelming season. Their loss to Clermont makes things very hard for them in their quest to finish in a European placing and Monaco could compound their woes. The visitors have been superb on the road for a long period, losing just one of their last 11 away from home and that record makes them difficult to back against here.
