THE LOWDOWN
LYON
It has been a nightmare season throughout for Olympique Lyonnais as they begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting rock-bottom in the Ligue 1 table after their opening 11 matches. They were winless in their opening ten games before managing to defeat an out of form Rennes side by a goal to nil a couple of weeks ago.
Coached by Italian FIFA World Cup winner Fabio Grosso, Lyon have been extremely tough to watch for the neutral as well as their supporters so far this season. They have managed to score just nine goals in their opening 11 games, sitting below the likes of Clermont and Lorient down at the bottom-of-the-table.
LILLE
Paulo Fonseca led Lille to fifth place last season, ensuring qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League. The northerners, with a relatively small squad, have managed to cope well with those added commitments so far this season and begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting fourth in the table.
The visitors, who have a trip to Slovenia in midweek to face Olimpija Ljubljana, shared a 1-1 draw with Toulouse a couple of weeks ago. That sharing of the spoils has extended their good run of form to just one defeat in their last 14 matches across all competitions and they are unbeaten in their last nine games, albeit five of those have been drawn.

LILLE

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Chevalier; Santos, Yoro, Alexsandro, Ismaily; Bentaleb, Ounas; Zhegrova, Gomes, Cavaleiro; David

THE PREDICTION
Ahead of the campaign, the John Textor owned Olympique Lyonnais would have anticipated joining Lille in a challenge for the European places but, as Textor completely dismissed ridiculous a couple of months ago, Lyon’s main focus is and should be simply survival. OL now welcome a Lille team that play good football under Fonseca, as he implemented at Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk, but have also found an effective and pragmatic formula to deal with fighting on other fronts, too. So, given that, it is difficult to see them losing to the bottom-of-the-table opposition.
BETTING TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – LILLE TO WIN OR DRAW
