THE LOWDOWN
LYON
Ahead of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign, Olympique Lyonnais appeared to be France’s crisis club and they are very much holding up that notion. Laurent Blanc said he wouldn’t know how long John Textor would keep him for and after suggesting he should be sacked, Textor has indeed pulled the trigger with Frank Lampard in the running to take over at Parc OL.
Lyon started the season with a reasonable performance, albeit suffering a 2-1 loss at Strasbourg. They followed that up with a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Montpellier before a much-needed point at the Allianz Riviera against Nice. They went into the international break, though, on the back of being thumped 4-1 for a second successive home game, this time by Paris Saint-Germain.
LE HAVRE
Le Havre returned to the French top-flight for the first time in over 15 seasons last year but will remain one of the favourites to head straight back down in a Ligue 1 table that has been reduced from 20 teams to 18 teams for this season. They have added some interesting players over the summer, though, such as Daler Kuzyaev and Mohamed Bayo.
They began the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign with a more than respectable 2-2 draw away to Montpellier before disappointingly losing 2-1 to Stade Brest. Since that loss they have collected four impressive points, though, with a 2-2 draw away to Rennes before hammering Lorient by three goals to nil before the international break.
THE TEAM NEWS
LYON
Olympique Lyonnais will be without key defender Dejan Lovren for this one and it remains to be seen what the manager-less outfit will look like after the international break.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Lopes; Mata, Diomande, Caleta-Car, Tagliafico; Tolisso, Maitland-Niles; Nuamah, Caqueret, Cherki; Kadewere
UNAVAILABLE: Lovren (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
LE HAVRE
Le Havre Will be pleased with their start to the season and with no fresh injury concerns they will be able to name an unchanged eleven for this weekend.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Desmas; Salmier, Sangante, Lloris, Operi; Toure, Kechta; Nego, Kuzyayev, Alioui; Logbo
UNAVAILABLE:
QUESTIONABLE: Targhalline (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
Olympique Lyonnais have endured a very difficult start to the season. The home team are in crisis on and off the pitch but things must surely improve and what better time to start than after an international break at home to a newly-promoted side. Whilst Le Havre have surprised a few so far this season, they are still expected to be among the weakest teams in the league and Lyon, especially at Parc OL, are the favourites for this one.
TIP: LYON TO WIN
