THE LOWDOWN
LORIENT
Regis Le Bris’ Lorient begin this match day under pressure as they sit third from bottom and currently occupy the Ligue 1/Ligue 2 relegation/promotion playoff place. They were held to another disappointing result last weekend, sharing a 1-1 draw with their fellow strugglers, Toulouse, away from home.
That draw means they are now winless in their last five Ligue 1 matches as they battle against the drop. What has remained interesting, though, is their entertainment value with their 14 matches so far this season consisting of 43 goals, an average of over three per game, with both teams scoring in the game on eight occasions.
MARSEILLE
Following the early season sacking of Marcelino and subsequent appointment of Gennaro Gattuso, performances have remained poor, if not got worse, as the season has gone on for Olympique de Marseille. However, they have returned from the November international break with some much-improved form.
That improved form continued with an impressive 3-0 annihilation of rock-bottom Olympique Lyonnais in their most recent outing, during the week. Marseille have moved into the top-half of the table and they have now suffered just one defeat in their last eight matches across all competitions. They have managed three successive wins ahead of this one, scoring nine goals in that run.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Pau Lopez; Mbemba, Gigot, Balerdi; Murillo, Veretout, Ounahi, Harit, Renan Lodi; Vitinha, Aubameyang

THE PREDICTION
It has been a really difficult opening few months for Lorient and they appear destined for a sustained battle against the drop this season. The home team have, as mentioned, maintained a scoring touch. They now face a Marseille side that played Lyon off the park as they really begin to click into gear under Gattuso so a fairly entertaining and high-scoring away win would appear the likeliest outcome for this one.
BETTING TIP: MARSEILLE TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
