THE LOWDOWN

LENS

At the start of this season, after finishing as runners’ up last year and just a point behind eventual winners and their upcoming opponents, Paris Saint-Germain, Lens started really poorly until around mid-September. After then, though, they have propelled themselves from down at the bottom end of the table to the top-half and back into the hunt for European qualification.

The home team, under the management of Franck Haise, come into this one on the back of a slow start to the calendar year. They shared a 2-2 draw with Monaco before being knocked out of the Coupe de France on penalties and that followed on from going into the winter break on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Nice.

PSG

Defending champions and league leaders Paris Saint-Germain also started relatively slowly after another hectic summer transfer window was then followed by the Parisiens failing to immediately adapt to the fairly complex patterns of play sought to be implemented by former Barcelona boss, Luis Enrique.

The visitors have already played twice this season and they have scored 11 goals without conceding in those matches. They began 2024 with a 2-0 defeat of Toulouse in the Trophee des Champions before hammering lower league opposition, Revel, by nine goals to nil in the Coupe de France in their most recent outing, last weekend.

THE PREDICTION

In their 17 matches so far this season, Lens have managed to score just 21 goals – despite the major improvements that they have made in recent months. However, they are missing several key players for this weekend’s visit of PSG. PSG are also coming into this one with a hefty injury list but that has been the case throughout the campaign and they will be expected to turn up and continue their excellent form with a victory in the north.

TIP: PSG TO WIN
