THE LOWDOWN

LE HAVRE

Le Havre finally returned to the French top-flight last season after over 15 seasons out of the elite level of French football. With some interesting signings over the summer, such as Daler Kuzyayev and former Clermont forward Mohamed Bayo, they will be hopeful of surprising many and actually avoiding relegation straight back down this season.

They come into this on the back of collecting a point at Parc OL against Olympique Lyonnais, continuing their steady start to the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign. The visitors have suffered just one defeat in their opening five matches, beginning the season with a 2-1 defeat at home to Brest before three draws and a victory against Lorient in their next four matches.

CLERMONT

Since gaining promotion back into the French top-flight, Clermont have managed to defy odds and overperform their expectations. They even finished eighth last season as they continue to be an extremely well-run club off the field with some impressive coaching on the pitch, under the management of Pascal Gastien.

So far this season, Clermont have managed to collect just one point from their opening four matches and they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom two and the automatic relegation places ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures. They come into this on the back of a 1-0 defeat home to fellow strugglers Nantes in their most recent outing.

THE TEAM NEWS

LE HAVRE

Le Havre have a fully fit and available squad, more or less, for this weekend’s visit of Clermont Foot so they will be able to name an unchanged eleven this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Desmas; Salmier, Sangante, Lloris, Operi; Casimir, Toure, Kechta, Alioui; Kuzyayev, Bayo

UNAVAILABLE: Targhalline (Injured)

CLERMONT

The visitors are without two players for this weekend’s trip, including former Birmingham City winger Jeremie Bela, who is suffering from illness.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Diaw; Seidu, Pelmard, Caufriez; Zeffane, Gonalons, Gastien, Neto Borges; Cham, Rashani; Kyei

UNAVAILABLE: Armougom (Injured), Bela (Illness)

THE PREDICTION

Following promotion last season Le Havre will be one of the heavy favourites for relegation and they now take on a Clermont side that are also in that group of teams. The visitors have started poorly, too, with just one point in five games. Only last season’s runners up Lens sit below them. Le Havre have shown fight in all five games this season and, given their home advantage, a double chance bet in their favour looks good value for this one.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – LE HAVRE TO WIN OR DRAW
