THE LOWDOWN
CLERMONT
It has been an impressive few years of over achievement for Clermont after gaining promotion to the top-flight for the first time ever in 2021 and then maintaining top-flight status ever since. That is going to come to an end, though, in the next month and a half or so with Clermont languishing adrift down at the bottom-of-the-table.
They, alongside the likes of Salernitana and Almeria on the continent, are in a position whereby they are just waiting for their relegation to be mathematically confirmed. They come into this one, though, on a dramatic 2-1 defeat of Le Havre in their most recent outing a couple of weeks ago to just about keep themselves alive.
TOULOUSE
Toulouse won the Coupe de France last season and that meant they qualified for the UEFA Europa League but that was way ahead of schedule because their squad really didn’t have enough depth or quality of depth to cover across both Ligue 1 and European competition and they are hovering in the bottom-half of the table ahead of the ‘run-in’.
They went into the March international break on the back of back-to-back defeats in Ligue 1. After losing by a goal to nil against Le Havre, they followed that up by suffering a deflating 3-2 defeat at home to Olympique Lyonnais at Stadium de Toulouse in a game in which they did have the lead until the 77th minute of the match.

THE PREDICTION
For the vast majority of this campaign, these two have very much been involved in the relegation battle but that is pretty much no longer the case but for different reasons. Clermont have already more or less drifted to relegation, whilst Toulouse have moved themselves into the middle-of-the-table. A good beet for this one, though, is that it is likely to be a low-scoring encounter given the fact that they have combined for just 48 goals thus far.
