THE LOWDOWN
CLERMONT
After their previous game ended in a bizarre abandonment which saw goalkeeper Mory Diaw stretchered off due to a fan-thrown firework detonating in his close proximity, Clermont returned to Ligue 1 action with a much needed 2-1 victory against fellow relegation candidates Lyon.
Clermont looked to become a steady mid-table side since promotion in 2020, however with just one win in six games they sit four points from safety inside the drop zone and look likely to be in the relegation mix come May.
They do have the positive boost of a game in hand over Metz, who sit just three points outside the bottom two and, dependent on other results, could rise into the safety area for the first time since match week four with victory.
NICE
Nice will look to continue their impressive unbeaten start to the season and build on their 1-0 home victory at home to Marseille last weekend.
34-year-old Italian manager Frencesco Farioli has been hailed as a protégé of Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi. His impressive back-to-back beatings of Monaco and PSG seemed to turn their season around after their first three games ended in stalemate.
The southern Riviera club are unbeaten in their last six games with five wins. A backline including 40-year-old Brazilian Dante (who has played every minute of Ligue 1 action this season) has managed to concede only four goals all season, the lowest in the league.
THE TEAM NEWS
CLERMONT
Neto Borges completes the final match of his suspension, whilst Jérémie Bela joins Yoel Armougom on the injured list.
Manager Pascal Gastien therefore has the resources available to name an unchanged side.
PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Diaw; Ogier, Caufriez, Pelmard; Konate, Gonalons, Gastien, Allevinah, Magnin; Nicholson, Cham.
UNAVAILABLE: Bela (Injured), Armougom (Injured), Borges (Suspended)
QUESTIONABLE:
NICE
Sofiane Diop will be the only player sidelined for Nice as Farioli will more than likely stick with his winning side once again.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Bulka; Lotomba, Todibo, Dante, Bard; Sanson, Ndayishimiye, Boudaoui; Laborde, Moffi, Boga.
UNAVAILABLE: Diop (Injured)

THE PREDICTION
Nice will look to continue their unbeaten run and come into this game the clear favourite. Although Clermont will be boosted by their last victory, they will be fully aware that second-placed Nice will be a huge step-up in quality compared to their previous opponents, last-placed Lyon. A low-scoring, yet comfortable away victory looks the most likely outcome for Nice.
