THE LOWDOWN

BREST

After a bright start to the campaign, Stade Brest were expected to revert to the mean and slide down the Ligue 1 table – which they did in the autumn months. However, prior to the winter break, they recovered well and have actually mounted a challenge for a top three finish and potential UEFA Champions League qualification.

Under the management of former Sunderland player Eric Roy, Brest begin the restart to Ligue 1 action sitting fourth in the table and just a couple of points outside of the top three. They come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat of Angers in the Coupe de France in their most recent outing, meaning they are now unbeaten in their last seven matches, conceding two goals in that time.

MONTPELLIER

Montpellier Herault were one of the under achieving mid-to-lower-half of the table teams in Ligue 1 that will have been concerned by the league being reduced from 20 to 18 teams, making the likelihood of a relegation battle much greater. They begin the match day sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table after 17 games.

Coached by Armenian manager Michel Der Zakarian, Montpellier have suffered just one defeat in their last six matches across all competitions and just three losses in their last ten with all three of those defeats coming against teams in the top four of Ligue 1 – including Brest. They defeated Amiens by two goals to one in the Coupe de France last weekend.

THE TEAM NEWS

BREST

After scoring four goals in a game before the winter break, Kamory Doumbia is now away at AFCON, whilst Axel Camblan is unavailable due to suspension.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Bizot; Lala, Chardonnet, Brassier, Locko; Camara, Lees-Melou, Magnetti; Del Castillo, Mounie, Le Douaron

UNAVAILABLE: Camblan (Suspended), Doumbia (International duty), Amavi (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

MONTPELLIER

Montpellier are without six first-teamers due to international callups, whilst Theo Sainte-Luce and Arnaud Nordin are also missing from this one due to injury.

PREDICTED XI (5-3-2): Lecomte; Allix, Omeragic, Jullien, Esteve, Mincarelli; Ferri, Savanier, Chotard; Adams, Yeboah

UNAVAILABLE: Tchato (International duty), Bertaud (International duty), Sylla (International duty), Al Tamari (International duty), Sacko (International duty), Kouyate (International duty), Nordin (Injured), Sainte-Luce (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

In their excellent run of form before the stoppage, Stade Brest defeated Montpellier in the reverse fixture between these two sides. They have maintained their impressive form and, despite Kamory Doumbia not being available due to international duty, can still field a very strong team in this one. In contrast, Montpellier are missing several key players so, as a result of that and their home advantage, backing Brest looks the way to go for this one.
