BREST PREVIEW: BRILLIANT BREST

Former Sunderland boss Eric Roy defied logic and expectation to lead Brest to Europe’s elite club competition and they have started their UEFA Champions League campaign with back-to-back wins, hammering Salzburg by four goals to nil in Austria in midweek.

That scoreline was admittedly extremely flattering to the Ligue 1 side and they have struggled domestically so far this season with departures of and injuries to key players meaning they have just six points from six matches in the league.

LE HAVRE PREVIEW: LACK OF LUCK FOR LE HAVRE

Le Havre gained promotion to the top-flight for the first time in 15 years in 2023 and Slovenian coach Luka Elsner managed to keep them up. He departed for Reims in the summer to be replaced by former Middlesbrough midfielder Didier Digard.

The visitors began with a 4-1 loss to PSG in which it was 1-1 with five to go and Le Havre playing well before back-to-back victories. Since then, though, they have suffered three successive defeats and were most recently hammered 3-0 by Lille at Stade Oceane.

BREST TEAM NEWS: KEY LONG-TERM ABSENTEES

Eric Roy remains without a couple of key first-teamers for this weekend with the absence of reported Tottenham Hotspur target Bradley Locko and former Norwich City midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Bizot; Lala, Chardonnet, Coulibaly, Amavi; Camara, Fernandes, Faivre; Del Castillo, Ajorque, Sima

UNAVAILABLE: Locko (Injured), Lees-Melou (Injured)

LE HAVRE TEAM NEWS: STILL NO LOGBO FOR LE HAVRE

There is only one injury concern for Didier Digard to concern himself with for this weekend as Andy Logbo remains sidelined due to an ACL injury that he has sustained.

PREDICTED XI (5-4-1): Desmas; Nego, Sangante, Kinkoue, Lloris, Operi; Casimir, Toure, Kechta, Joujou; Soumare

UNAVAILABLE: Logbo (Injured)

BREST VS LE HAVRE PREDICTION

Brest have struggled in Ligue 1 so far this season and the loss of Steve Mounie in the summer as well as several loanees like Martin Satriano means they are weaker in attack. They will be buoyed by a flattering 4-0 win in midweek. Le Havre, though, have the ability to play and have shown that this season, despite their recent defeats. This one could be quite an entertaining contest for the neutral.
