THE LOWDOWN

WOLVES

  • Julen Lopetegui’s stint at Wolverhampton Wanderers has been a generally impressive one but their 2-0 loss at Liverpool in midweek means they have now collected just one point in their last three matches.
  • Rayan Ait-Nouri is a natural replacement for the injured Hugo Bueno at left-back while Matheus Cunha could be a surprise inclusion up front after making a quicker-than-expected recovery from his injury.

TOTTENHAM

  • Tottenham Hotspur had been improving in the Premier League with four victories in their last five matches but a loss to Sheffield United in the FA Cup in midweek has all but confirmed an extension to the ‘no trophy since 2008’ statistic, barring a shock Champions League win.
  • Stand-in boss Cristian Stellini could opt for the same XI that beat Chelsea last week, which would mean that the under-performing Heung-Min Son would once again find himself on the bench.

THE PREDICTION

In his time at Sevilla, there was a large chunk of time over a fairly big sample size whereby Julen Lopetegui’s Andalusians would win over a third of their matches to nil, which is absolutely remarkable, but also a clear and succinct way of describing his general tactical philosophy. Given that his Wolves side could do with getting back to basics and back on track, against a Tottenham team now infamous for tedious football this season, this is unlikely to be a fascinating game for the neutral. Pretty much every match involving the visitors is unpredictable but a lack of goals seems irritatingly expected.
