Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City were edging towards the bottom three and the relegation places but The Foxes have started the post-January part of the season in excellent form. They come into this on the back of back-to-back victories, scoring four goals in both against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

Leicester’s January transfer window additions of Harry Souttar, Viktor Kristiansen and Tete have offered real depth and improvement to Leicester’s side as they seek a march back up the table.

The defence has been an issue throughout the campaign with a lack of consistency, both in terms of performance and selection. Timothy Castagne, who has often been a wing-back during his career, but has performed well at right-back with Kristiansen, who joined from Copenhagen, performing well at left-back. Souttar and the very impressive Wout Faes make up a much-improved defence. Despite their defensive improvement, they have still conceded three goals in their two aforementioned wins.

Jonny Evans remains unavailable due to injury, as does James Justin and Ryan Bertrand, which does highlight the reason for a lack of selection consistency.

Wilfred Ndidi is and has been a stalwart of Leicester’s side but injuries and poor form led to the Nigerian being dropped and the ‘double pivot’ in their midfield is now a risky and attack-minded partnership of Youri Tielemans and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Whilst January additions have been key to Leicester’s clear improvement in their last two matches, the return from injury of James Maddison is not something that can be understated. The Englishman’s form in the first part of the season was so good that he earned a call-up to the England squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar but he had been injured until their trip to Villa Park a couple of weeks ago. He has been one of the goal scorers in both of their recent wins.

Both Tete and Harvey Barnes have benefitted from Maddison’s fine form with opposition defences struggling to cope with all three when they go forward. They will all start behind the improving Kelechi Iheanacho, who has also scored in both victories. He is keeping Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka out of the team.
