Patrick Vieira appeared to have stumbled across a winning formula, at long last, last weekend but The Eagles conceded a late equaliser against Brentford and are now continuing to search, ever more desperately, for a victory.
Palace face a Liverpool side that are struggling in all areas but particularly in midfield where players are either in bad form, ageing quickly not yet ready to consistently perform at a high level – or two of the three.
Joachim Andersen returned to the defence last week to form a partnership with the impressive Marc Guehi and they are flanked on the left-hand side by Tyrick Mitchell. Nathaniel Clyne started at right-back due to Joel Ward being out injured but Ward would likely replace Clyne if fit and available for this weekend.
Naouirou Ahamada was viewed as a real coup when Palace signed him on transfer deadline day from Stuttgart but the box-to-box midfielder is yet to make a Premier League start. Albert Sambi Lokonga, who joined on loan from Arsenal, started ahead of him last weekend but Ahamada will be chomping at the bit and under the lights at Selhurst Park against a rusty Liverpool midfield seems a fitting way to make a full debut.
Eberechi Eze had to be brought off the bench by Vieira last weekend in order to score Palace’s opener, which was later cancelled out by Vitaly Janelt of Brentford. At home, Vieira may be slightly more adventurous and play Eze in a front four, ahead of Jeff Schlupp, to compliment Jordan Ayew, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Michael Olise.
Wilfried Zaha remains a doubt for this match, particularly from the start, due to a hamstring injury that the Ivorian picked up a few weeks ago.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Guaita; Clyne, Anderson, Guehi, Mitchell; Doucoure, Lokonga; Olise, Eze, Schlupp; Mateta
UNAVAILABLE: Johnstone (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Ward (Injured), Ferguson (Fitness), Zaha (Injured)
