THE LOWDOWN
WEST HAM
It's fair to say West Ham have been something of a surprise package so far this season with David Moyes' side having collected ten points from a possible 12 available, but they now face their toughest assignment of the season against the reigning champions.
The Hammers' last fixture saw them overcome promoted side Luton to extend their unbeaten run. In-form Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring before Kurt Zouma made sure of the victory late on. Mads Andersen pulled one back for the Hatters in the closing stages, but Moyes' men held on for victory.
MAN CITY
Pep Guardiola's troops recorded their biggest win of the season with a 5-1 triumph over Fulham before the international break, and last season's treble winners are the only team to boast a 100% winning record in the Premier League this season.
City didn't have it all their own way against the Cottagers, with Tim Ream equalising not long after Julian Alvarez had put the hosts in front, but a somewhat controversial Nathan Ake goal ensured that the leaders were ahead at the break. The second half turned into the Erling Haaland show, with the prolific Norwegian scoring a hat-trick that took the game beyond Fulham.
THE TEAM NEWS
WEST HAM
Konstantinos Mavropanos is available for the first time since joining the club, while Vladimir Coufal is a slight doubt after picking up a knock while on international duty.
A delayed flight meant that Edson Alvarez rejoined the Hammers squad later than expected, so Moyes may choose to replace him in the middle of the park with Tomas Soucek, who has now completed his concussion protocols.
PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Areola; Coufal, Zouma, Aguerd, Emerson; Ward-Prowse, Soucek; Bowen, Paqueta, Benrahma; Antonio
UNAVAILABLE:
QUESTIONABLE: Coufal (Injured)
MAN CITY
The trio of John Stones, Mateo Kovacic and Jack Grealish have all been ruled out of this fixture by Pep Guardiola, with Kevin De Bruyne the only other injured party.
Kovacic's absence could pave the way for Matheus Nunes to make his Man City debut, although Bernardo Silva could be shoehorned into the line-up with Guardiola having always been a fan of the Portuguese international. In defence, Josko Gvardiol could return to the XI after his benching against Fulham.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Walker, Dias, Akanji, Gvardiol; Rodri, Nunes; Doku, Alvarez, Foden; Haaland
UNAVAILABLE: Stones (Injured), Kovacic (Injured), De Bruyne (Injured), Grealish (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
THE PREDICTION
Two unbeaten sides meet here but there is only one favourite, with visitors Man City looking like they are clearly the side to beat once again this season. West Ham have performed admirably so far, but a tough fixture run combined with Europa League commitments is going to pose a serious challenge to them in the coming weeks. Their unbeaten streak is likely to come to an end here with an away victory on the cards.
TIP: MAN CITY TO WIN
