TOTTENHAM PREVIEW: SECOND SEASON ANGE

Prior to Tottenham Hotspur’s opening day trip to Leicester City last week, Ange Postecoglou uttered what could prove to be infamous words when saying he usually wins things in his second season. Without being too cliché or critical, Spurs then began with an extremely ‘Spurs-y performance’.

Up against what appeared to be a bit of a rabble in the first-half after a difficult summer transfer window, Tottenham dominated the first-half at Leicester but only Pedro Porro found the back of the net to make it 1-0 at half-time. Those wasted chances were then punished in the second-half when Jamie Vardy notched a 57th minute equaliser.

EVERTON PREVIEW: EARLY PRESSURE ON DYCHE

Sean Dyche has already made a not-so-disguised dig at Everton supporters and their supposed speed to be overly critical of the Toffees when things go wrong and, in the aftermath of a 3-0 loss at home to a Brighton and Hove Albion trying to adjust to the methods of a new manager, that is not going to go down well with the Goodison faithful.

The Toffees did start the game relatively well and had plenty of chances in the first-half, as well as having a penalty awarded but then overturned in the second-half, but goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Adingra inflicted the first humiliation of what may actually be a long season for Everton in their final campaign at Goodison Park.

TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS: SOLANKE FRUSTRATION

After missing a few opportunities on debut last weekend, Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that striker Dominic Solanke will now be unavailable for this one after picking up a knock.

Right-back Pedro Porro was forced off with injury last week at the King Power Stadium but the Spaniard has been passed fit so will be available for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Pedro Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Gray, Sarr; Johnson, Maddison, Son; Solanke

UNAVAILABLE: Rodrigo Bentancur (Concussion)

QUESTIONABLE: Forster (Injured), Bissouma (Disciplinary)

EVERTON TEAM NEWS: PLENTY OF ISSUES

Sean Dyche has been dealt a frustrating blow of James Tarkowski picking up a knock and now the Burnley defender, who captained last week in the absence of Seamus Coleman, is a doubt for this weekend.

As well as Coleman, Nathan Patterson, James Garner and Youssef Chermiti are all sidelined through injury with Ashley Young out suspended after receiving a red card last week.

PREDICTED XI (4-5-1): Pickford; Holgate, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko; Harrison, Iroegbunam, Gueye, Doucoure, McNeil; Calvert-Lewin

UNAVAILABLE: Branthwaite (Injured), Coleman (Injured), Patterson (Injured), Young (Injured), Garner (Injured), Chermiti (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Tarkowski (Injured)

TOTTENHAM VS EVERTON PREDICTION

This is an intriguing one because another heavy defeat for the visitors will really see dissent and pressure begin to grow on Sean Dyche and Everton. Tottenham, though, have proven themselves time and again that they find it difficult to break down low block defences and there is no real argument to suggest this weekend will be any different. Spurs may get over the line but finding a handicap bet in favour of a low-scoring game may well be a good call.
