THE LOWDOWN
SOUTHAMPTON
- Southampton’s unbeaten run of seven games in all competitions came to a screeching halt last Saturday as they were thrashed 4-0 away at Aston Villa and a reaction is expected from them against Newcastle.
- Defender Lyanco and goalkeeper Alex McCarthy are each expected to miss out once again, although both Shane Long and Mohamed Salisu could be passed fit to play.
NEWCASTLE
- Newcastle continue to pull themselves out of relegation trouble as they made it five wins from their last six Premier League games last time out with an excellent 2-1 victory over Brighton.
- Eddie Howe is likely to name an unchanged starting line-up provided no late injuries crop up with the likes of Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Isaac Hayden remaining out of action.

THE PREDICTION
Newcastle make the long journey down south full of confidence with momentum among their squad sky high when considering that they have racked up 16 points from the last 18 available to them. However, they face a Southampton side hurting following their beating at the hands of Aston Villa and with home advantage in their favour should put up a much-improved showing. It won’t prove easy for the hosts though, because Newcastle are a far stronger outfit now defensively due to the presence of players such as Dan Burn and Matt Targett and with fast, skilful players like Ryan Fraser and Allan Saint-Maximin going forward, they are capable of goals. The visitors have to be favoured to take a least a point from this one, if not all three so back Newcastle to do just that via the double chance market.
Tip: NEWCASTLE WIN/DRAW DOUBLE CHANCE
