Premier League Points Tally Records
Arsenal have looked like the team most likely to land the Premier League season up to the halfway point of the season and fans of the Gunners could be forgiven for getting carried away at their side’s prospects. On the back of a dramatic weekend of PL action in which both Arsenal and second-placed Manchester City lost their respective fixtures, TSZ has explored the total points of each winner in PL history to see where the Gunners stand in their quest to land a first league title since the 2003/04 season.
Following the loss to Everton, Arsenal sit on 50 points after 20 games which games them a total of 2.5 points per game (PPG) and puts them on track for 95 points. If they can maintain that record for the rest of the season, they will believe that they have done enough to land the title with a total of 95 points only surpassed in three previous season, (Man City with a record-breaking 100 points in 2017/18, 98 points in 2018/19 and Liverpool with 99 points in 2019/20).
Should Arsenal suffer a dip, there may not be too much of a cause for concern. A drop to 2.4 PPG would have seen them land the Premier League title in five of the last 10 years while even 2.3 PPG would have been enough in four of those 10 years. The level of the teams at the top has undoubtedly got stronger since the PL’s inception in 1992/93 with 2.2 PPG enough to win the league in the first seven years of its existence.
