THE LOWDOWN
NEWCASTLE
- Newcastle will need to be at their absolute best all over the pitch if they wish to gain anything from this match, although they have proven a tougher side to play against at home since Eddie Howe took charge.
- The Magpies picked up two injuries midweek in their 3-1 loss to Liverpool, with Jamal Lewis being subbed off due to a hamstring injury that will keep him out of this match, whilst Allan Saint-Maximin is also doubtful following a knock suffered on Thursday night.
MAN CITY
- Man City are coming off the back of their biggest win in this season’s Premier League, thrashing Leeds Utd 7-0, their seventh successive top flight victory which not only significantly boosts their goal difference, but keeps them top of the table with Liverpool breathing down their necks.
- Midfielder Bernardo Silva was substituted off at half-time as a precaution following a muscle complain and may not be risked here, although Joao Cancelo returns following suspension and fellow full-back Kyle Walker will be hoping to have returned to full fitness in time to feature.

THE PREDICTION
This contest is very much a mismatch and Newcastle have their work cut out to get anything against the reigning Premier League champions, who are in sublime form particular from an attacking perspective. As much as the Magpies have seen an upturn in fortunes in recent matches, defensively they have still struggled badly and their backline is expected to be overwhelmed by the visitors, with boss Pep Guardiola boasting a vast array of offensive players to choose from within his squad, although following an inconclusive Covid-19 test, Guardiola may not be present at St. James' Park. Despite that however, any result other than a Man City victory here would be a huge surprise.
