- It has been a hugely positive couple of weeks for Newcastle, having not only secured their first win in six Premier League fixtures by beating Leeds Utd 0-1 at Elland Road, but also doing plenty of late transfer business as the January window drew to a close.
- Defenders Dan Burn and Matt Targett arrived from Brighton and Aston Villa respectively, the latter joining on loan whilst the marquee signing was in midfield with Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes arriving from Ligue 1 side Lyon for over £40m.
EVERTON
- Everton’s new era under Frank Lampard got off to the perfect start this past weekend as they defeated Brentford 4-1 in the FA Cup fourth round, a much-needed momentum booster for Lampard and his men ahead of this crunch trip to St. James’ Park.
- The Toffees are boosted by the news that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has strong chance of being fit to play following a knee problem, although defender Ben Godfrey has been ruled out following a hamstring injury suffered against Brentford.

THE PREDICTION
Only four points separates these two sides in the table and 16th-placed Everton have every right to be looking nervously over their shoulders having lost four of their most recent five Premier League games, accruing just a single point in the process. They’ll be entering a St. James’ Park cauldron full of Geordie fans filled with hope following their side’s victory at Elland Road and boosted by an injection of new players, a number of whom could make their debuts here. However, Lampard already looks to have inserted some steel into this Everton team, who won’t be afraid to take the fight to the Magpies from an attacking perspective when taking into account their new manager’s preferred style of play. However, clean sheets were often hard to come by for Lampard at both Derby and Chelsea, so it would be no surprise if Newcastle were to be afforded some joy in front of goal. With that in mind, back both teams to score here, regardless of the final outcome.
