THE LOWDOWN
NEWCASTLE
- Conceding to a last-gasp Liverpool winner on Wednesday evening was an agonising way for Newcastle to see their unbeaten start to the season come to an end, but there were plenty of positives to take, including the performance of new signing Alexander Isak.
- Eddie Howe was coy over the availability of Bruno Guimaraes and Allan Saint-Maximin but appeared more optimistic over the involvement of Isak, who suffered from a dead leg in the aftermath of the Liverpool defeat.
CRYSTAL PALACE
- The 1-1 draw with Brentford on Tuesday evening was a bitter pill to swallow from Crystal Palace’s perspective as they managed to survive the pressure until the dying moments.
- Midfielder Will Hughes has since trained after picking up a knock in midweek, but will face a late fitness test to determine his involvement at St. James’ Park, although aside from him the Eagles have no other new injury worries to contend with.

THE PREDICTION
Conceding late goals cost both teams in their respective midweek fixtures and the message will very much be on channelling that frustration into positive performances here. Newcastle’s new signing Alexander Isak made an instant impact on his debut against Liverpool and he will be chomping at the bit for another opportunity to impress should he overcome a dead leg, while the likes of Eberechi Eze and Wilfried Zaha will be a constant menace at the other end. An entertaining game should ensue then, but the edge just goes to the hosts, who have lost just once in their last 12 Premier League games at St. James’ Park.
