THE LOWDOWN
NEWCASTLE
Eddie Howe has been dealt some serious issues throughout this season in terms of injuries so the fact that the Magpies are finishing the campaign sitting tucked inside the top six ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures is a serious achievement. They come into this one on the back of some excellent form, too.
They went to Turf Moor to face Burnley last weekend and hammered the Clarets by four goals to one with goals from Callum Wilson, Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak. That means Newcastle have now won five of their last seven matches, scoring four or more on four occasions in that run of form.
BRIGHTON
Roberto De Zerbi could well be departing Brighton and Hove Albion at the end of this season with the Seagulls drifting quite badly towards the end of the campaign. They begin the weekend sitting just about in the bottom-half of the table and pretty much out of contention to finish in the top seven and earn European qualification.
The visitors do come into this one on the back of a much-needed victory at home to Aston Villa at the AMEX Stadium last weekend. Joao Pedro scored an 87th minute winning goal in that game for the out of form hosts after they had been winless in six matches in the Premier League as they drift away.
THE TEAM NEWS
NEWCASTLE
Eddie Howe has said that Kieran Trippier 'is getting closer' and that a late decision will be taken on the England international as to whether he will be involved against Brighton this weekend.
The Magpies do remain without other key defender Sven Botman and Fabian Schar but the latter could return next weekend for the final day of the season.
PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Dubravka; Livramento, Krafth, Burn, Hall; Murphy, Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Gordon; Wilson, Isak
UNAVAILABLE: Botman (Injured), Schar (Injured), Lascelles (Injured), Targett (Injured) Tonali (Suspended), Willock (Injured), Miley (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Trippier (Injured)
BRIGHTON
Roberto De Zerbi has been dealing with an extremely long injury list of key players throughout this campaign and the Seagulls boss has also had to confirm yet another fresh major injury concern.
Joao Pedro has picked up another issue with an ankle injury and De Zerbi, without knowing the extent, has described it as 'sad', whilst Tariq Lamptey may be available for the squad.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Veltman, Webster, Dunk, Igor; Gross, Gilmour; Buonanotte, Julio Enciso, Adingra; Welbeck
UNAVAILABLE: Van Hecke (Injured), Pervis Estupinan (Injured), Milner (Injured), Hinshelwood (Injured), Lallana (Injured), March (Injured), Mitoma (Injured), Ferguson (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Lamptey (Injured), Joao Pedro (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
In 35 Premier League matches so far this season, Newcastle United’s games have consisted of 134 goals and they have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch this season at both ends of the pitch. Brighton have been dealing with key attacking injuries but remain a front foot, at least in theory, team. The Seagulls will be open at St James’ Park and a high-scoring game is in store with Newcastle remaining the firm favourites for this one.
