THE LOWDOWN

NEWCASTLE

  • Newcastle put an end to their four-game winless run last weekend when they recorded a resounding 1-4 against Fulham, with Miguel Almiron’s wonder strike – one of two goals scored by the Paraguayan – standing out in particular.
  • Allan Saint-Maximin has had a week of training behind him so Eddie Howe has a big decision to make as to whether he throws the Frenchman straight into the starting line-up, while the medical team are being cautious with Alexander Isak, who will not be thrown into the fold just yet.

BRENTFORD

  • Brentford were frustrated by a stubborn Bournemouth side last week and had to settle for a goalless draw and the Bees’ 5-2 win over Leeds last month is their only win from their last six Premier League games.
  • Centre-back Pontus Jansson was forced off with a thigh injury last week and he misses out here so Mathias Jorgensen is poised to deputise, while Ethan Pinnock has a chance of making the squad after making good progress with his knee issue.

THE PREDICTION

Just a single point separates these two sides in the Premier League table, but Eddie Howe’s Newcastle will be in better spirits after their convincing win at Fulham last week. Several of their attacking players appear to be in form at the moment and the ever-dangerous Saint-Maximin could return to the side on Saturday, so Brentford could be up against it. The visitors are yet to win on their travels in the league this season, and St. James’ Park is no easy place to overturn such a statistic, so a home win is the prediction in this one.
